45 :: Prioritizing HER Pleasure with Kim Sedgwick

Episode Description:

Ladies, why are we so afraid to ask for what we want in the bedroom?
This week on the Ignite Intimacy podcast I’m talking to sex educator Kim Sedgwick, co-founder of Red Tent Sisters, about the female tendency to put others first and not take time to consider and express their own desires and needs. We’re talking about opening up the channels of communication in the bedroom, and prioritizing all different kinds of pleasure, not just orgasm.
Learn the beauty of letting go of your fears, saying goodbye to those pesky hangups, being fully seen for all of you, and creating true connection and intimacy with the right people (for you!).

Kim Sedgwick-BIO

Growing up Toronto, Canada, in a very sex positive atmosphere, Kim always felt comfortable asking questions and having discussions about sex. After majoring in English and Gender & Women’s Studies, Kim and her sister Amy founded Red Tent Sisters to teach women how to manage their fertility naturally through the Justisse Method, and helping them feel sexually empowered.
Kim aims to change the definition of the passive “nice girl”, and teach women about the confidence that comes from knowing your boundaries and creating deep connections because of it. Currently working in Toronto, Kim also works in continuing education and advocacy for sexuality and gender issues.

How I kicked resistance in the ass and launched my first solo CD!

WoweeeeWOW!!! Life is stretching me wide open & amazing me on the daily. It is dynamic, ever-changing, evolving, speaking to and through me in whispers and shouts, and showing me the way through subtle signs, soul-crushing doubt, and the guidance of others (strangers, family, friends, soul mates, teachers, clients… ). I have been given multiple opportunities to embrace life in all of its wild discomfort, in its resistance strong like a bulldozer ready to take me down. The burst of spring blossoming all around me reminds me that as dark as things can seem in my inner being, there are always new life seeds beneath the earth’s surface, sprouting, stretching, expanding beyond their core, their hard shell, taking that risk, that leap, choosing YES! I said “yes” to an opportunity to attend one of the most unique conferences for entrepreneurs in Fargo, ND this past weekend for the Misfits of the world. I said “yes” in 2013.. and as the date approached I felt major… I’m talkin’ MAJOR resistance here. There was no schedule, I had no idea who the speakers would be, I didn’t know anyone attending. I almost threw in the towel, gave up my ticket, turned my head … Continue reading

This one is for Mystic..

I had one of those tender reminders about the sacredness of life this past weekend. I’ve had a friend these last 8 years named Mystic.  And honestly, she was more than a friend.  She was a Soul SiSTAR, an Angel, a Guide; she was Family to me. I know you know what I’m talking about.. you’ve got friends like this too, right?! I met Mystic in the ladies room at B.B. King’s Blues Club in NYC.  I was singing in my stall (which I frequently do) because I hadn’t yet mustered up the courage to sing in front of others publicly.  When I came out of the stall Mystic was there washing her hands.  She was tall with chocolate skin and beautiful dreadlocks, dressed beautifully (she always dressed so funky, fresh and stylish), she was Regal.  She said, ‘You’ve got a beautiful voice!’ We introduced ourselves and began building our friendship. My friendship with Mystic was deep, she was a light and a guiding force in my life. She was filled with this peaceful power and presence, highly intuitive, creative (a singer and actress), she loved yoga and eating well for her body. We lost touch after I left NYC … Continue reading

Nik Wallenda's walk across Niagara Falls as a metaphor for life

As I watched Nik Wallenda prepare to walk a tight rope across Niagara Falls, one of the 7 wonders of the world, my heart was filled with excitement, a nervous flutter and admiration for this mans courage and determination.   His walk last Friday night is a great metaphor for life.  First, he had a dream.  He held a vision for many years before he was in a position to begin taking tangible actions to realize this dream.  It took him 2 years, a ton of courage, determination, practice, perseverance, bringing together two countries and over $1.5 Million to make this dream a reality.  THEN… after all of that, he had to actually get up on that tight rope and walk across Niagara Falls.. at NIGHT, nonetheless! There were a number of obstacles standing in his way.  Instead of allowing these obstacles to discourage him, he kept taking one step at a time, one foot in front of the other.  Just as he walked across the falls, with wind, birds, mist and the rushing driving rapid water pouring over the falls underneath him, he put one foot in front of the other.  And he prayed, and asked for the grace … Continue reading
