Ever Wonder What It’s Like To Be A Twin?

mirrors-FB-cover-updatedEver wonder what it’s like being a twin?

Sarah and I are asked this question constantly, as people reply, “I always wanted to be a twin!”

Here’s your chance to find out.

As you probably know, I’m a twin. And not only that, my twin sistar Sarah and I are born during the astrological sign of Gemini, the Twins! Kinda cool, right?!

Growing up with a twin sister has been incredibly amazing and also super challenging on many levels. Sarah and I have been going through a powerful transformational time over the last few years, reviewing our past, the old patterns and behaviors that come up between us, and choosing to learn new ways of being in this world in relationship to each other and ourselves. It’s been quite a ride to say the least!

When an opportunity presented itself to collaborate with internationally renowned artist Ben Perrone utilizing his ‘Mirror Room’ to visually express our connection and life journey, we jumped on it in an excited effort to showcase a piece that represents a small, but powerfully intriguing view into what it’s like to be a twin.

For twins that look alike, there is a constant, on-going comparison that others make of you. And for me, it’s as if I’ve always had this mirror in front of me, reflecting back things that I love about myself, and the things I like the least. It can be such a cool, unique experience to look at someone else and see that ‘mirror reflection’, and also extremely frustrating, even maddening at times.

While most of the time I graciously correct people who confuse with my sister as I’m running around town, sometimes it can be quite annoying! If you catch me in a more delicate moment you may hear me exclaim, ‘Seriously?! But Sarah and I have such different ENERGY! Can’t you FEEL my energy and KNOW I’m Laura?!!’

There is a delicate balance between the close bond that we share and the aching desire to be seen and addressed as individuals.

For a while now we’ve been considering different ways of sharing publicly what the experience of growing up as twins has been like for us. I’m super excited (and a little nervous) to share this project with you as a way to let you into our world, and have a more open and transparent dialogue about our lives together as twin sisters.

On June 9th, 2016 Sarah and I will premier ‘The Mirror Room Project,’ which is a powerful representation of the intimacy and polarity of what it’s like being a twin: having a constant reflection of yourself in the world.

In the month of Gemini, as we’re celebrating another rotation around the sun, we thought it would be the perfect time to share this with you.

Sooo… You’re invited to join us for this special event and project premier at the local studio of Ben Perrone, where the Mirror Room lives. Engage with us in a special Q & A with artist Ben Perrone, and my sistar Sarah and I after the viewing.

Want to create less anxiety and more positivity in your life?

Let me begin by taking a moment to celebrate this year… 2014 has been highly challenging, magical, synchronistic and heart and mind blowing in so many ways. This year Life is requiring me to step up and stretch in ways I’ve never stretched before. It’s been intense, awesomely amazing and a little bit of everything else! Can you relate?!! I’m so thankful that I’ve been filling my bucket with simple tools that I can use in challenging times, which remind me moment to moment to trust and surrender to the Divine Universal Flow. When I remember to use these tools (sometimes I conveniently forget), it’s truly amazing to be able to tap into a source of support, energy, and love that’s always here, and to acknowledge and trust my own divine knowing. I recorded this vlog to share a challenge I’ve been experiencing this summer, which I believe many of you can relate to. I’ve been struggling with ideas, feelings, perceptions, and anxiety around my physical appearance, which has directly affected my own self worth. Check out the video below to hear my story and how I’m moving from anxious to ACTIVATED, worried to ALIGNED and powerless to EMPOWERED! You know I LOVE to hear from … Continue reading

An awesome review of my CD release party from graphic artist Afura Fareed

Oh my goddess! I’m so thankful for the awesome feedback about my CD and my CD Release Party. The latest review comes through from my girl Afura Fareed, the graphic designer who has created such magic with my latest projects! She captures the party’s vibe in such a beautiful way… Read on to get even more of the flavor of this oh-so-MEMORABLE evening! ‘Laura Aiisha’s release party for her debut album “I Am” left little to be desired. It was the first EP launch I’d ever been to, and I’m confident that other guests in the same position would agree that it was everything they’d imagined and then some. The 9th Ward as her choice of venue was perfect. Its old-world-meets-modern-artsy vibe was welcoming and provided a cozy, intimate setting for such a gathering. As the event photographer, I was excited to arrive early and be one of the first guests to receive a free copy of the CD, and to soak up the positive atmosphere on camera before and during the event. Laura has been a good friend and colleague of mine for a while now, but until her album release party, I hadn’t had the pleasure of seeing … Continue reading

‘All of Me’ is my day 2 song for The Haykel Twins 7 day song challenge!

Here is my song for day 2 of The Haykel Twins 7 day song challenge! Click here to listen to my song ‘All of Me.’ This song came through me today because of a reaction that I had towards my Mom from a triggered place. I noticed that I was feeling ‘bad’ about it and having trouble forgiving myself for reacting the way that I did. I’m always curious about when I or others feel ‘bad’ about something.. it feels so old, it feels abusive and it seems to create a block to self love and forgiveness. I was able to take responsibility for my actions, speak about the part that triggered me the most (which taps into a very old and outdated belief about not being important or cared for by others) and we, as a family, were able to create a space of love around it fairly quickly. Then, as I was recording this song later in the evening, my teenage daughter was trying to sleep and called me towards the end of the recording to ask me to stop singing… guess what happened?! I felt ‘bad’ again.. So I sat with that for a few minutes, reminded myself … Continue reading

Get Up & Get Out of Your Way Process

I want to share with you my Get Up & Get Out of Your Way Process. This is a super-powerful tool I’ve been using with myself and with groups of people as well as with my own clients, and I want to give you an opportunity to use this process too! And I have a very special gift at the end of this post for you!!! Here’s a quick strategy to help you get out of your own way by stepping into mindfulness awareness when you start to sink into old undesirable thoughts, patterns and behaviors… In plain English: when you get TRIGGERED and react in ways that don’t serve you or anyone else! 1. First of all… Awareness is key!  We cannot begin changing our behavior if we’re not aware of what we’re doing and how we impact the world around us.  So, I invite you to Start to bring awareness to your thoughts, what’s triggering you, your actions and reactions.  That’s it.. just start to notice how you be and who you be! 2. Then, Begin to notice what you’re focusing on… Are you focused on what’s not working? or are you focused on what’s working? Are you … Continue reading
