30 :: Religion and Sex with Bob LaVallee

Episode Description

Can religion and sexuality coexist in a harmonious and healthy way? Definitely, according to Bob LaVallee, and he thinks the place to start is the fundamental idea that sex is GOOD!

Bob and I talk about keeping the shame and guilt out, and the holy and sacred in sex through lifelong education, acceptance, and changing our perceptions about this previously taboo subject. We also touch on the concept of toxic masculinity and how society’s expectations are keeping us from truly being ourselves. Experience the freedom that comes with finding a sweet balance on podcast Episode 30 of Ignite Intimacy, Religion and Sex with Bob LaVallee!

Ever Wonder What It’s Like To Be A Twin?

Ever wonder what it’s like being a twin? Sarah and I are asked this question constantly, as people reply, “I always wanted to be a twin!” Here’s your chance to find out. As you probably know, I’m a twin. And not only that, my twin sistar Sarah and I are born during the astrological sign of Gemini, the Twins! Kinda cool, right?! Growing up with a twin sister has been incredibly amazing and also super challenging on many levels. Sarah and I have been going through a powerful transformational time over the last few years, reviewing our past, the old patterns and behaviors that come up between us, and choosing to learn new ways of being in this world in relationship to each other and ourselves. It’s been quite a ride to say the least! When an opportunity presented itself to collaborate with internationally renowned artist Ben Perrone utilizing his ‘Mirror Room’ to visually express our connection and life journey, we jumped on it in an excited effort to showcase a piece that represents a small, but powerfully intriguing view into what it’s like to be a twin. For twins that look alike, there is a constant, on-going comparison that … Continue reading

Are you listening to the song of your Soul? Update on my Digital Pause

I realize I’ve been out of touch for quite a while. I’ve been thinking about my community (YOU!), holding you in my heart, planning to reach out, and….. I’ve been putting it off. Here’s an update from my last blog of 2015….. As you may have read, something really big was beginning to shift within me late summer/early fall 2015. The seed of that shift was planted a year before in the summer of 2014. As last September rolled around I found myself in the midst of a major life transition, with my only child going away to college and the next phase of my life beginning to peak through the soil and reach for the sunshine. My whole world started opening up before me. I felt…. scared, nervous, excited, confugled (it’s a word I made up years ago, sort of a blend of confused and mixed up ;), contemplative and full of anticipation to discover how my life will unfold before me in the days/months/years ahead. In October 2015 I began to dive into the beginning of a rebranding process for ‘Laura Aiisha’ while mapping out another plan that would possibly, potentially be the magic key that would allow … Continue reading

How baby steps become quantum leaps

What was the first thing you thought of when you got out of bed today? Just a few years ago I used to wake up and lay there wondering what the heck I was getting out of bed for, paralyzed by an illusion of confusion and a serious lack of clarity about what I wanted to do with my life. ‘How will I ever get all of this potent creativity out of my body and into the world?’ I thought. The long and short of it is this: I used to dread. waking. up. Can you relate? Have you ever had a period of your life where you didn’t want to get out of bed? In fact, you may have wanted to stay there all day? I know what that feels like! And now, I know what it feels like to wake up and have the very first thought come to my mind be ‘Thank you, Thank you, Thank you’ as I wrap my arms around my body and say to myself, ‘I love you Laura.. I love you sooo much! I am whole complete and perfect, I am healthy wealthy and wise.’ I’ve always dreamed of being a singer. … Continue reading

When love comes knockin' on your door

I hear the subtle voice.. the longing, the missing, the hoping, the wanting. At times the subtle voice seems to have more power than my deeper knowing. It wants me to hide, to give up, to whine and complain about what’s not working, to focus on the don’t want instead of the want, to be lost in an illusion of confusion or to convince me that I’m not really all that special… that I lack in some way that will forever stand in my way of meeting my dreams face to face, in real time. Hmmm… I’m so curious about this voice on these frigid snow filled winter days. A pattern has surfaced again these last few weeks. I am aware of this pattern in my life and it’s felt so frustrating to get clear about what this pattern is trying to show me, teach me, guide me through and into. You see, I’ve never been the type of woman to jump from one long term relationship into another. I’ve spent more time journeying solo with lovers on the side. It somehow felt safer to me.. to guard my heart from the pain of a breakup, the realization that the … Continue reading

When you think you flopped ~ Gremlins & what else is possible

I’ve always dreamed of being a singer. Truth is, over the years I’ve gone back and forth with myself about whether my voice is ‘good enough’ or ‘really good’ or ‘something worthy of sharing with others through singing.’ I remember in my early 20’s I was hanging out with some hip-hop artists here in Buffalo. I just happened to be at their home studio one day and they needed a female to vocalize a hook for them. I said ‘I’ll do it!’ even though I’d never done anything like that before. I did it because I knew that somewhere within me, I desired to share my singing voice with the world, and also, that some part of me knew that my voice was worthy of sharing. As I stood in that closet, mic in front of me, door closed, the producer told me through the headphones what to sing and how to sing it. As I began to sing, my voice went in and out of tune. What I wanted to express, how I wanted to sound, how I could HEAR the sound in my heart wasn’t translating as the air came out of my lungs and mouth into the … Continue reading
