Not sure where to begin with that ‘birds and bees’ conversation with your child?

Work with children or know someone who’s children are reaching the tween years and they need support to have powerful conversations about sex and sexuality with their kids?

Empowering the next generation of girls – one classroom at a time!

I am so thrilled to be able to share a project with you that has been over a year in the making!

Helping young women step into their power and embrace their unique gifts is a passion and mission of mine! This past school year, my twin sister Sarah and I collaborated on a pilot project with the staff and students of Nativity Miguel’s St. Monica’s Campus to share in a year-long Empowerment and Leadership program with their grade 7 girls.

This project is near and dear to both our hearts as we both keenly remember that vital time in our childhood. 7th grade was the time that I started to veer down a different path and venture into unknown territory, and somewhat unhealthy behavior. I had a hard time relating to my parents, people at school, and sometimes even my twin sister. It was a time when I could have used extra support, guidance, mentorship and a sense that even though I was exploring things that a lot of my peers weren’t exploring, that that was ok, that I was ok.

Sarah and I developed a program to give Saint Monica’s 7th grade girls the tools and space to discover who they are while receiving the support they need to become powerful and empowered young women. We taught mindfulness practices, body-centered awareness, verbalization and communication tools, journal writing, how to express yourself in healthy ways through movement and visual art forms, and several simple, but powerful tools they can carry with them into the world as they claim their power and chart their own journey and path!

We also worked with the 7th Grade girls’ teachers during a handful of workshops throughout the school year so that the work that we were doing with the girls could be experienced by the teachers themselves. It was a powerful year for all of us! And truly amazing to watch the girls and teachers open up and transform before our eyes.

Here is a short piece about our work with the 7th Grade girls and Teachers at Saint Monica’s. Sarah and I continue exploring different ways of bringing this to more schools and classrooms around the country and the world! If you are touched or inspired, please leave a comment and share this blog 🙂

Sarah and I work with both adult and youth. For more info on how to bring Sarah and I to your school, community center, or organization, please contact Sarah Haykel at sarah@sarahhaykel.com

Drowning in boring? Get ready to Ignite… your love life!

Every day is an opportunity to love and be loved, however there is something that feels extra special about February. Not only is it the shortest month in all the year (and a leap year this year.. how cool!!), but it also means that spring is ever closer to warming our souls and uplifting our senses with the rebirth of everything (at least in the northern hemisphere)! Can I get a Woo Woo?!! Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with two powerhouse execs in Buffalo, NY, who have a podcast for women, by women. Julia and Anne are a frickin’ hoot and I was thrilled to sit down with them for their Valentine’s day episode and get jiggy talking about relational intimacy on the Snyder on Call Podcast! Click here to check out their Facebook page and share your support! I’m passionate and curious about the variety of intimate relationships that exist in our world, what makes them wax and wane or last through the ages, and was thrilled to receive an invitation to dive into the topic on how to “reignite” love and intimacy in long-term romantic partnerships with Julia and Anne. What a timely topic in this season … Continue reading

Are you listening to the song of your Soul? Update on my Digital Pause

I realize I’ve been out of touch for quite a while. I’ve been thinking about my community (YOU!), holding you in my heart, planning to reach out, and….. I’ve been putting it off. Here’s an update from my last blog of 2015….. As you may have read, something really big was beginning to shift within me late summer/early fall 2015. The seed of that shift was planted a year before in the summer of 2014. As last September rolled around I found myself in the midst of a major life transition, with my only child going away to college and the next phase of my life beginning to peak through the soil and reach for the sunshine. My whole world started opening up before me. I felt…. scared, nervous, excited, confugled (it’s a word I made up years ago, sort of a blend of confused and mixed up ;), contemplative and full of anticipation to discover how my life will unfold before me in the days/months/years ahead. In October 2015 I began to dive into the beginning of a rebranding process for ‘Laura Aiisha’ while mapping out another plan that would possibly, potentially be the magic key that would allow … Continue reading

Join us TODAY! The Get Up Movement :: From Woe is Me to Empowered and Free

Bless Up ma famille! I want to share with you a bit about my experience hitting ‘rock bottom.’ When I look back on my life, there are a few specific times that I can think of when I truly hit bottom. And when you hit that place, you know you’re at the bottom because literally, there’s nowhere to go but up. Can you relate?! The last major bottom I hit was at 29 years young. I fell in love with this man who was not ready, willing or able to love me fully. There were several reasons why this didn’t work (and ended in utter disaster); however, what occurred to me in the aftermath was that I had no idea at that time how to love MYSELF. I also realized that I was putting so much of my own ‘stuff’ on this situation, trying to get my needs met through other people who were saying know, but I couldn’t/wouldn’t hear it. It was heartbreaking, it brought me to my knees and broke me to the core.. and then the most incredible things started to happen. I took a STAND for myself and my life. I told myself, ‘Laura Haykel.. you’re … Continue reading

‘All of Me’ is my day 2 song for The Haykel Twins 7 day song challenge!

Here is my song for day 2 of The Haykel Twins 7 day song challenge! Click here to listen to my song ‘All of Me.’ This song came through me today because of a reaction that I had towards my Mom from a triggered place. I noticed that I was feeling ‘bad’ about it and having trouble forgiving myself for reacting the way that I did. I’m always curious about when I or others feel ‘bad’ about something.. it feels so old, it feels abusive and it seems to create a block to self love and forgiveness. I was able to take responsibility for my actions, speak about the part that triggered me the most (which taps into a very old and outdated belief about not being important or cared for by others) and we, as a family, were able to create a space of love around it fairly quickly. Then, as I was recording this song later in the evening, my teenage daughter was trying to sleep and called me towards the end of the recording to ask me to stop singing… guess what happened?! I felt ‘bad’ again.. So I sat with that for a few minutes, reminded myself … Continue reading

Are you partnering with or avoiding your shadow?

Allow me to introduce you to my shadow… the deep dark hidden parts of me that can pop up and out at the most inconvenient times.. the parts of me that I avoid because looking at them, embracing them even, causes me mild to severe discomfort..  the parts of me I pretend to have ‘overcome’ because of my commitment to personal growth.. the parts of me that need the most love, that are teaching me, aching to collaborate with me.. and half the time I ignore them. My shadow has been coming up for me over the last few months.. what really wants to come out here is that my shadow has been rearing it’s ugly head, or trying to anyways, since November. Dang… is my shadow really ugly? No, it’s not. But those are the terms that describe something that I am realizing I’ve done a great job avoiding. I consistently live outside of my comfort zone. It brings stuff up, it makes me uncomfortable, I stretch and grow, sometimes I want to hide. I’ve been realizing that stuff around my shadow has been becoming clearer to me since I returned from Bali in early November. That’s when I started … Continue reading

Yes!! I'm having it! .. are you?!

I just returned from the sacred island of Bali and said YES to another golden opportunity upon returning: an intimate lunch meeting where myself and 12 other emerging young business leaders sat with Howard Zemsky, managing partner of Larkin Development Group who has revitalized the Larkin District in downtown Buffalo! I feel so blessed to be having these opportunities and for choosing to say YES to them! Check out this inspiring video below, just back from beautiful Bali and vibrating with abundant energy to believe and receive! I invite you to join me in integrating this new mantra into our lives, ‘Yes, I’m having it!’ And please leave a comment below because I want to know WHAT ARE YOU SAYING YES TO?!! Love & Bless,       … Continue reading

Crossing the threshold to a new experience

I’ve crossed a threshold at some point over the last few months.  I’m seeing, experiencing and being in life in new ways and notice how my perspective is shifting and expanding.  I’m starting to realize just how far i’ve come over the last 15 years.  And all of the incredible awesomely amazing things i’ve done and experienced.  All of the heartbreaks and challenges i’ve walked through and birthed anew from.  And how every small step i’ve taken, has brought me to this very exciting, renewed, expansive, open to receive, love more of who I truly be in this world place. I came across someone online today who, from what I can tell, is living life to the fullest.  They are young, smart, beautiful, savvy, connected, well traveled and brilliant.  In the past when i’d meet someone like this or come across them online I would feel as though they had something that I didn’t. I chose to compare and that created an illusion of separation.  As if I lacked something within me and didn’t quite measure up to their degree of cool or successful.  Comparing myself to others used to be a huge distraction and energy drain for me (sometimes … Continue reading

Self Responsibility: no blame-no shame. Who do I need to be to create a new experience?

self responsibility… taking one tiny step, acknowledging one shift, one choice, one balance or imbalance, to co~create an experience, whether enjoyable or deeply uncomfortable.we all, in each moment, have a choice in how we show up, who we ‘be’ and what we say, how we react or how we hold and contain the part of us that wants to react.. from that old place, causing chaos instead of cohesion we all have a choice a choice to choose which path we will step on in any given moment a choice of the thoughts that pass through our minds which create vibrations sent out through the wavelengths which in turn co~create either harmony & peace, discord & dis-ease or something in between i’ve found it difficult in certain situations to be clear as to where my responsibility lay.   Here are some of the questions I ask myself to further overstand how I can take responsibility:at what point did I become triggered?how did I show up?who was I being? what is the reflection here? why am I feeling triggered by this?what part did I play in co~creating a situation that creates separation instead of connection? for so many years it seemed … Continue reading
