I am so thrilled to be able to share a project with you that has been over a year in the making!
Helping young women step into their power and embrace their unique gifts is a passion and mission of mine! This past school year, my twin sister Sarah and I collaborated on a pilot project with the staff and students of Nativity Miguel’s St. Monica’s Campus to share in a year-long Empowerment and Leadership program with their grade 7 girls.
This project is near and dear to both our hearts as we both keenly remember that vital time in our childhood. 7th grade was the time that I started to veer down a different path and venture into unknown territory, and somewhat unhealthy behavior. I had a hard time relating to my parents, people at school, and sometimes even my twin sister. It was a time when I could have used extra support, guidance, mentorship and a sense that even though I was exploring things that a lot of my peers weren’t exploring, that that was ok, that I was ok.
Sarah and I developed a program to give Saint Monica’s 7th grade girls the tools and space to discover who they are while receiving the support they need to become powerful and empowered young women. We taught mindfulness practices, body-centered awareness, verbalization and communication tools, journal writing, how to express yourself in healthy ways through movement and visual art forms, and several simple, but powerful tools they can carry with them into the world as they claim their power and chart their own journey and path!
We also worked with the 7th Grade girls’ teachers during a handful of workshops throughout the school year so that the work that we were doing with the girls could be experienced by the teachers themselves. It was a powerful year for all of us! And truly amazing to watch the girls and teachers open up and transform before our eyes.
Here is a short piece about our work with the 7th Grade girls and Teachers at Saint Monica’s. Sarah and I continue exploring different ways of bringing this to more schools and classrooms around the country and the world! If you are touched or inspired, please leave a comment and share this blog 🙂
Sarah and I work with both adult and youth. For more info on how to bring Sarah and I to your school, community center, or organization, please contact Sarah Haykel at firstname.lastname@example.org
Ever wonder what it’s like being a twin? Sarah and I are asked this question constantly, as people reply, “I always wanted to be a twin!” Here’s your chance to find out. As you probably know, I’m a twin. And not only that, my twin sistar Sarah and I are born during the astrological sign of Gemini, the Twins! Kinda cool, right?! Growing up with a twin sister has been incredibly amazing and also super challenging on many levels. Sarah and I have been going through a powerful transformational time over the last few years, reviewing our past, the old patterns and behaviors that come up between us, and choosing to learn new ways of being in this world in relationship to each other and ourselves. It’s been quite a ride to say the least! When an opportunity presented itself to collaborate with internationally renowned artist Ben Perrone utilizing his ‘Mirror Room’ to visually express our connection and life journey, we jumped on it in an excited effort to showcase a piece that represents a small, but powerfully intriguing view into what it’s like to be a twin. For twins that look alike, there is a constant, on-going comparison that … Continue reading →
Every day is an opportunity to love and be loved, however there is something that feels extra special about February. Not only is it the shortest month in all the year (and a leap year this year.. how cool!!), but it also means that spring is ever closer to warming our souls and uplifting our senses with the rebirth of everything (at least in the northern hemisphere)! Can I get a Woo Woo?!! Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with two powerhouse execs in Buffalo, NY, who have a podcast for women, by women. Julia and Anne are a frickin’ hoot and I was thrilled to sit down with them for their Valentine’s day episode and get jiggy talking about relational intimacy on the Snyder on Call Podcast! Click here to check out their Facebook page and share your support! I’m passionate and curious about the variety of intimate relationships that exist in our world, what makes them wax and wane or last through the ages, and was thrilled to receive an invitation to dive into the topic on how to “reignite” love and intimacy in long-term romantic partnerships with Julia and Anne. What a timely topic in this season … Continue reading →
I realize I’ve been out of touch for quite a while. I’ve been thinking about my community (YOU!), holding you in my heart, planning to reach out, and….. I’ve been putting it off. Here’s an update from my last blog of 2015….. As you may have read, something really big was beginning to shift within me late summer/early fall 2015. The seed of that shift was planted a year before in the summer of 2014. As last September rolled around I found myself in the midst of a major life transition, with my only child going away to college and the next phase of my life beginning to peak through the soil and reach for the sunshine. My whole world started opening up before me. I felt…. scared, nervous, excited, confugled (it’s a word I made up years ago, sort of a blend of confused and mixed up ;), contemplative and full of anticipation to discover how my life will unfold before me in the days/months/years ahead. In October 2015 I began to dive into the beginning of a rebranding process for ‘Laura Aiisha’ while mapping out another plan that would possibly, potentially be the magic key that would allow … Continue reading →
It’s FINALLY spring! Hallelujah!!! I cannot even begin to express my JOY at finally seeing my DRIVEWAY! Seems so simple, and it is soooo real after the winter we’ve had. It’s most certainly time to give thanks and celebrate the glorious sunshine! For me, this is also a time to take notice of the rebirth and renewal both inside ourselves and all around us. Spring deserves a celebration, and what better way to celebrate the change of season than by renewing your relationship with the divine feminine? Sarah Haykel, Sue Morreale, Sarah Nasca, and I are sooo excited to present Spring Clean You, an event exclusively FOR women BY women! We have gathered some of Western New York’s creative Goddess Powerhouses for an evening of artistic expression and storytelling. Spring cleaning isn’t just for your house! Come join us as we celebrate the feminine inside ourselves and our community! See below for all the details: “Four female entrepreneurs have come together to honor the Divine Feminine in You. Bless Up ma famille! I want to share with you a bit about my experience hitting ‘rock bottom.’ When I look back on my life, there are a few specific times that I can think of when I truly hit bottom. And when you hit that place, you know you’re at the bottom because literally, there’s nowhere to go but up. Can you relate?! The last major bottom I hit was at 29 years young. I fell in love with this man who was not ready, willing or able to love me fully. There were several reasons why this didn’t work (and ended in utter disaster); however, what occurred to me in the aftermath was that I had no idea at that time how to love MYSELF. I also realized that I was putting so much of my own ‘stuff’ on this situation, trying to get my needs met through other people who were saying know, but I couldn’t/wouldn’t hear it. It was heartbreaking, it brought me to my knees and broke me to the core.. and then the most incredible things started to happen. I took a STAND for myself and my life. I told myself, ‘Laura Haykel.. you’re … Continue reading →
This is a time of BIG SHIFTS… I know you can feel it! We’re dropping the old stories that keep us limited and coming into the awareness of who we truly be… free, empowered, amazing beings with infinite capabilities! I want to share with you another personal story and a telesummit you can access to make another powerful shift that will help you bring more happiness, possibility, and amazing co-creations into your life! I remember back a few years ago I was hustling hardcore through the Summer to develop new business for my consulting firm, all the while feeling ‘sorry for myself’ that I wasn’t ‘able’ to take a vacation like everyone else seemed to be doing. I was really in the ‘poor me’ story that’s been with me for a majority of my life. Can you relate to feeling like this? Looking at all of the people having fun, traveling, going to the beach and feeling totally left out and sorry for yourself? I definitely can… Then, after some bitching & complaining to just the right people (who of course held me accountable for being in my stuff!), I realized that I actually HAVE A CHOICE! How about that?! … Continue reading →
I’ve crossed a threshold at some point over the last few months. I’m seeing, experiencing and being in life in new ways and notice how my perspective is shifting and expanding. I’m starting to realize just how far i’ve come over the last 15 years. And all of the incredible awesomely amazing things i’ve done and experienced. All of the heartbreaks and challenges i’ve walked through and birthed anew from. And how every small step i’ve taken, has brought me to this very exciting, renewed, expansive, open to receive, love more of who I truly be in this world place. I came across someone online today who, from what I can tell, is living life to the fullest. They are young, smart, beautiful, savvy, connected, well traveled and brilliant. In the past when i’d meet someone like this or come across them online I would feel as though they had something that I didn’t. I chose to compare and that created an illusion of separation. As if I lacked something within me and didn’t quite measure up to their degree of cool or successful. Comparing myself to others used to be a huge distraction and energy drain for me (sometimes … Continue reading →
