As I watched Nik Wallenda prepare to walk a tight rope across Niagara Falls, one of the 7 wonders of the world, my heart was filled with excitement, a nervous flutter and admiration for this mans courage and determination.
His walk last Friday night is a great metaphor for life. First, he had a dream. He held a vision for many years before he was in a position to begin taking tangible actions to realize this dream. It took him 2 years, a ton of courage, determination, practice, perseverance, bringing together two countries and over $1.5 Million to make this dream a reality. THEN… after all of that, he had to actually get up on that tight rope and walk across Niagara Falls.. at NIGHT, nonetheless!
There were a number of obstacles standing in his way. Instead of allowing these obstacles to discourage him, he kept taking one step at a time, one foot in front of the other. Just as he walked across the falls, with wind, birds, mist and the rushing driving rapid water pouring over the falls underneath him, he put one foot in front of the other. And he prayed, and asked for the grace of creation to guide and strengthen him, his Father was there on a mic in his ear supporting and encouraging him, and the world watched, as he put one foot in front of the other, tired, exhausted, weak, numb hands, weary soul, he put one foot in front of the other.. until he walked through the mist, like many of us walk through the fire, to the other side… one foot in front of the other to, as Jim Morrison sang so powerfully ‘break on through to the other side..’
I encourage you, just as I encourage myself each day, to keep taking one step at a time, just one step, especially when confusion, overwhelm and doubt become your obstacles, continue to take one step at a time, one foot in front of the other and then VOILA! Before you even know it.. you’ve made it through.
This week I am focusing on my commitment to enjoy the process, the pursuit, this magical time filled with envisioning, plotting and planning, holding true to my visions and dreams and continuing to take one step at a time as I co~create the life of my dreams and blaze trails while making my greatest contributions to life and to the world.
What are some of the obstacles that you’ve overcome in your life by taking one step at a time, one foot in front of the other? I look forward to hearing from you, sharing, responding and connecting in this space!
Keep on keepin’ on..
